It’s the basic position your back is in when you’re lying on your back on the floor.
We want to strengthen our lower backs, even while we're walking and sitting. Here's how to strenghten your lumbar spine (lower back), try this:
Lie on the floor. Pretend you’re lying on a nice smooth, freshly combed white sandy beach! Think of what body parts would leave an imprint in the sand….. Head - Shoulders - Bum - Legs
……..oh…. And of course - your Margarita!!!
But seriously, your lower back wouldn’t be PRESSED into the sand. You have a NATURAL LOWER BACK CURVE = that’s called “neutral spine”!
I want you to maintain your lower back neutral spine, not FLATTEN IT OUT! We want to strengthen that neutral curve, so you don't experience low back pain. Many exercises comprimise the lower back and weaken it. I do almost all my strength training in NEUTRAL SPINE for that reason, especially CORE WORK!
I want you getting stronger in the RIGHT position, not a rounded or flattened lower back position. The more you do something, the better at it you get!!! Good AND bad things - so don’t get really good & strong in a position you don’t want to have as an end result!!
